Nest Box 1 (NB1)
Nest Box 1 (NB1)
Nest box 1 is a bird box with a 25mm hole, its made entirely out of wood and has a A shaped roof. It has a small hole at the bottom that's perfect for looking up and if there is nesting material that means there is a bird nesting!
It is placed on a solid healthy tree located in the woodlands area of the NatureNet back garden the bird box was placed up October 2022 pointing SW but got readjusted to point 23Β° NE in December 2023.
2 nesting's has occurred in NB1 unfortunately the first ever nesting was wren's and it failed, the eggs were not fertilized and the mother abandoned it and the NatureNet team had to destroy the eggs (under the UK law).
In 2024 Great Tits have tried and there was nesting happening and the eggs were fertilized and hatched successfully! you can listen to a recording of there baby birds here.
The bird box gets cleaned once were certain the birds have fledged or when were unsure we wait until the end of October because that's out of season for birds nesting.
